Marjuana Etiquette
Like every subculture before and all that will follow after, the Pot Culture has it’s rules and norms. Reflecting the nature of the culture these subtle rules are based on basic respect and common courtesy. They should be observed closely if one wishes to maintain a good status in the community.
I. Whoever supplies the weed gets the green (the first hit)! If a bunch of people threw in, whoever packs the bowl or rolls the joint gets the first toke. If you are smoking with a girl, let her take the first hit.
II. As verbalized in the famous song always “Pass the Deutche pon the left hand side.” When sharing a joint, blunt or bong in a group setting it is crucial to respect the rotation. “Friday’s” Smokey said it best “Puff Puff Pass. You fuckin up the rotation. You can killed fuckin around like that!" Always pass to the left, never double hit and you should be alright.
III. Once the hot-box is closed DO NOT break the box under any circumstances. This will ultimately affect everyone’s high.
IV. Never hand someone a cashed bowl without properly informing them.
V. If a person passes on one round, DO NOT assume that they are passing on the next round.
VI. Never Bogart or “baby sit” the weed. It’s rude as hell to take a hit then launch into a story while everyone else is waiting for a hit.
VII. If you are smoking with two other people and you are the middle person, you do not get a hit every time it passes you. Just because you are in the middle does not allow you extra hits.
VIII. Treat your smoke-out buddy the way you want to be treated, respect their home, and weed
IX. Always remember to thank a person who has gotten you high.
X. If you've been invited to a session don't bring strangers along unless the party host gives consent. If you do bring someone with you make sure they aren't buzz killers, mooches, or, most importantly, narcs.
XI. Never under any circumstances touch anybody else's bud without asking.
XII. Never talk about negative things when you are stoned. It brings down the general mood and puts bad thoughts in everyone’s head, the last thing any stoner wants.
XIII. Don't fuck with people when they're stoned. If they get quiet or “Stuck” as some call it, then they are in a rare Nirvana state. Let them enjoy their high in the way that suits them, not what suits you.
